Summary Session Three
Fear & P.O.W.E.R Technique for Public Speaking

Fear

Fear is an emotion – just like happiness and excitement. This means it can be managed.

When we give into fear, we lose out on some great things in life that can help us to grow and be better people.

Fear is not always a bad thing. Fear tells us to be cautious. It could tell us that we may need to prepare or practice more for something or be cautious around something.

Fear is a made up story – it s not real. We imagine something bad will happen, it hasn’t happened yet. We imagine we will fail, we haven’t failed yet. We imagine we will be hurt, we haven’t suffered that yet. We imagine we will forget our speeches when speaking, that hasn’t happened yet.

Confidence helps overcome fear. When you are confident about something, you have less fear. This may mean you have prepared well or are ready for what is to come.

Confidence is gained by action. By doing something over and over again so you become good at it.
